…it’s over

Even though the Bills cannot take back the absolutely horrible game they played, at least they are no longer the reigning champs of the ‘longest playoff drought’ title. Now we get to start all over again.

But here’s something I did learn this season (and, it will explain why the feature image of this post is bowling balls when the topic is football): a new tailgating tradition of bowling ball shots.

I’ve seen a lot when it comes to the Ralph Wilson, correction, New Era Stadium tailgating, more specifically, the ‘unofficial-adjacent-parking lot tailgating. ‘Smoke tents’, truck acrobatics, defacement of the vehicle of an opposing fan who made the mistake of parking in the belligerent lot, and beer luge, though I did not witness that myself. Anyone interested in filming a post-apocalyptic scene would do well by utilizing these lots about an hour after the game ends.

But back to bowling ball shots. Apparently, there is a tradition of taking shots of liquor from the thumb hole of a bowling ball. And my question was, ‘but how much alcohol could that really be?’. My guess was a half ounce or less.

Google searches weren’t very helpful, so I launched an official investigation. Using a 15 lb ball, a shot glass that holds 2.15 oz by weight, and accounting for spillage, it actually turns out that the thumb hole can hold a respectable approximate 1oz of booze.

Bonus from the bowling alley:

Extra bonus, because I am a sucker for Buffalo references in mainstream media, even if they are of the negative persuasion (which they almost always are, but oh well):
